Animation Progress

We are making progress. Scene 28 for our 10% hand-in next week is about to be rendered out and to get composed. This was supposed to happen on Monday, but we ran into a few problems with nCloth. It simply didn't give us the results we wanted. So I ended up remodeling Umb's canopy to make it match the shape, since it is not moving and I also created a blendshape for the pillow to make it match and follow the animation.

The second problem appeared when I added the 2D drops (animated by Rossie) to the playblast you can see above. It was supposed to be just a test, to make sure it's gonna work out, before the final composeting starts a week before the deadline. Well, as a metter of fact it didn't work. The camera movement was supposed to follow the drop down to create a suspense before the drop hits her and trigers the nightmare. Unfortunately the camera movement is simply too slowly and the drop looks dead, falling down while not moving at all. I asked Rossie for a fee more inbetweens for the fall, a wobbeling to bring it more alive while falling. Let's see how that looks in the finished comp.

A backup-plan would look as following:

So that's my first go on animating a wee walk to Umb to get his personality across and add the needed creepiness. The neck/head-movement needs sorting, but I am quit pleased with the legs so far. The next step is probably gonna be to try, find my loap-points and come up with a proper walkcycle for him. If I can sort this and if it's gonna be amazing I might be able to reuse it for a few scenes and speed my workflow up. :)

Scene 28

That's the animation for our first scene we're gonna finish up for our Christmas hand-in. Quit a pressure to call something I animated so early done for the final project, but I don't really have a choice.

Hallway textures

These are the most recent textures for the Hallway. The rug may have to be changed as some feel that it could look better. The lighting is basic in this render and it took 40 minutes to be chrnued out...

Also, A big thanks to Gary Welsh for his help :)

Two mirrors for one wardrobe

I've been working on texturing the big mirrors on the wardrobe for Hannah's bedroom. Apparently all you need to do is take a blinn, colour it black and put the refelctivity up to one...

Well, that sort of worked out... It didn't reflect every mesh in the scene at first, because somehow Maya and I managed to disable a small option for some objects that allows them to be shown in reflectivity.

So here we go (after trying various reasons and variations from light to render settings out, of course). The rest is up to Scott at some point, cause, he says it himself, he's responsible for making things pretty!

Also we have an octopus :)

Wallpaper

I'm currently texturing Hannah's bedroom, means I get to create wallpapers, is fun. :) Stars, a moon, a few branches should do.

I've been also playing around with colours for it and so far I like blue the most.

Had a little discussion with Scott about that because the light situation in the bedroom is not blueish all the time at all. He said it's fine and I do believe him, but I still played around once more to come up with some backups, just in case.

First Floor

I warned Amit that I'm going to take all the credits for the first floor model if he doesn't get his shit together and the first floor on the blog. So here it is. MY model for the first floor, reade for uv-mapping and texturing. :P

Bedroom model

Just an update, that the modeling for the bedroom is almost done, just the books are missing.

I wasn't quit happy how the design I had for the lamp in Hannah's room turned out in 3D in Maya, so here's a new one. Staaaaaaaars - I like it. :)

Concept stuff

Since the blog I had last year for this project got hacked and I had to start this one I thought it still be a good idea to post all the finished concept stuff that was developed last semester:

Background concept for the hallway

Hallway layout to help with modeling

Background concept for the First floor...

 ...also with a layout

Different concepts for the bedroom (one for each light situation)
 Lights on

Lights off

Nightmare

Good dream

 and layouts, again

Turnarounds and colour for all three characters by Rebecca Rolland:

Ella

 Umb

and last but not least Hannah

Changes are of course possible, since it's the plan from last semester!

Ella, modeled and textured

First of all here's the model for Ella. I know somehow she looks like a big colourful bubble gum but at the end of the day she's supposed to be a happily jumping little umbrella that brings fantastic dreams. Call me crazy but it's also the first time I actually had fun texturing something. For me that's a good enough reason to mark her textures as successful for now, she's ready for rigging.

Ella model

The model for Ella is don as well. I thought she would take me at least two weeks but it turned out to be a lot easier and quicker.

Umb textures

I am really not happy with how the textures for Umb turned out so far... I'm gonna leave it for now, work on other things and come back to it later.

Umb model

He looks like a stick doesn't he. Ah well, I'm sure once he starts to walk on his eight legs like a spider it's gonna work just fine!
